The Cine Las Americas International Film Festival has been showcasing Latinx, Latin American, and Indigenous films in Austin, TX for 23 years. Learn more about previous editions of the festival.

The 23rd annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival (CLAIFF23) was held June 9-13, 2021 virtually and with in-person events in Austin, TX. CLAIFF23 once again provided a rare showcase of films and videos made by and/or about Latinxs, Latin America, or Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Films from Spain and Portugal were also included, enhancing a truly Pan-American cinematic experience. Learn more.

 


 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the Cine Las Americas 2020 Virtual Showcase! Taking place on consecutive weekends, July 16-19 and July 23-26, 2020 the virtual event was co-presented by the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival (CLAIFF) & the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC).

The showcase included 49 films (7 features, 32 shorts, and 10 music videos) hailing from 12 different countries, and was presented free of charge to US audiences. CLA granted eight Audience Awards in seven categories.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the 22nd annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival!

In addition to welcoming over 3,000 audience members for films and special events, the festival also welcomed guest filmmakers, musicians, and other artists from all over the Americas. Films were presented at two primary partnership venues AFS Cinema and The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, as well as other venues in the capital city.

The festival showcased contemporary films and videos from all over the world, with primary emphasis on films of the Americas. The selection was comprised of 114 titles — 41 feature films, 56 short films and videos, 15 music videos, and 2 VR/360º videos. These selections represented 25 countries in production or co-production of the titles: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Jordan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, Syrian Arab Republic, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela. All films were presented in English and/or subtitled.

The five-day festival concluded on Sunday, May 5th with the closing night celebration and announcements of awards. The festival granted Jury and Audience Awards in ten categories.

In addition to welcoming over 3,000 audience members for films and special events, the festival also welcomed guest filmmakers, musicians, and other artists from all over the Americas. Films were presented at three primary partnership venues AFS Cinema, MASS GalleryThe Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, as well as other venues in the capital city.

The CLAIFF21 program selections included a total of 126 titles — 39 feature films, 65 short films and videos, 16 music videos, and 6 PSAs. These selections represented 31 countries’ participation in the production or co-production of the projects, including: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, French West Indies, Germany, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The five-day festival concluded on Sunday, May 6th with the closing night celebration and announcements of awards. The festival granted Jury and Audience Awards in ten categories.

In addition to welcoming over 2,500 audience members for films and special events, the festival also welcomed guest filmmakers, musicians, and other artists from many corners of Texas, the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Spain. The CLAIFF20 program selections included a total of 172 titles — 39 feature films, 99 short films and videos, 26 music videos, and 8 spots; these selections represented 28 countries’ participation in the production or co-production of the projects, including Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Finland, France, Greece, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, the United States of America, and Venezuela.

The five-day festival concluded on Sunday, May 7th with the closing night celebration and announcements of awards. The festival granted Jury and Audience Awards in nine categories.

In addition to welcoming over 2,500 audience members for films and special events, the festival also welcomed over 50 guests from many corners of Texas, the United States, and Latin America. The CLAIFF19 program selections included a total of 38 feature films, 61 short films, and 16 music videos; these selections represented 24 countries’ participation in the production or co-production of the projects, including Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The five-day festival concluded on Sunday, May 8th with the closing night celebration and announcements of awards. The festival granted Jury and Audience Awards in nine categories, including the annual Hecho en Tejas competition, and the Emergencia Youth Film competition. For the second consecutive year, the festival featured a Best Music Video category, eligible for an Audience Award.

The CLAIFF18 program selections included a total of 41 feature films, 49 short films, and 5 music videos; these selections represented 28 countries’ participation in the production or co-production of the projects, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The five-day festival concluded on Sunday, April 26th with the closing night celebration and announcements of awards. The festival granted Jury and Audience Awards in nine categories, including the annual Hecho en Tejas competition, and the Emergencia Youth Film competition. For the first time, the festival featured a Best Music Video category, eligible for an Audience Award.
