Synopsis
Les Blank’s CHULAS FRONTERAS is a complex, insightful look at the Chicano experience as mirrored in the lives and music of the most acclaimed Norteño musicians of the Texas-Mexican border, including Flaco Jimenez and Lydia Mendoza. This film was selected by The Library Of Congress to be added to the National Film Registry list.
Presented in collaboration with The Bear, Design Build Adventure and LAND, the screening is the culmination of an annual weekend-long celebration of artist Butch Anthony and filmmaker Les Blank. Austin musicians Up Around the Sun will play in the lobby before the screening and art work by Butch Anthony and Tim Kerr will be on display. Don’t miss this unique, “only in Austin” event!
Presented by the Austin Film Society, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower our community to make, watch, and love film and creative media.
Presented in Partnership with Cine Las Americas
