San Basilio del Palenque was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Its culture and way of life have changed little over the centuries. As the vibrant cradle of Afro-Colombian music, the village moves to its beat every day: the pounding of pestles and chopping of machetes, street hawkers’ calls, the singing and chirping of birds and insects, and, of course, the beating of drums. Guided by motifs of life and death, PALENQUE is an ode dedicated to a small town that has greatly contributed to the collective memory of Colombia.
