Synopsis: The wild swings and crazy canvas of MACUNAIMA (1969) gave way to a direct and deeply subversive narrative of a historical Brazilian uprising in the 1972 film OS INCONFIDENTES (THE CONSPIRATORS). In 1789 a group of landowners, intellectuals and others, inspired by the American Revolution, rose up against Portuguese occupiers. Here, de Andrade drew the ire of the political regime, with his thinly veiled critique of contemporary military dictatorship.

In celebration of Story Bar ATX's second trip around the sun, Cine Las Americas joins them for a multi-cultural arts evening spotlighting Austin artists from around the globe. Synopsis: There is a boarding house on the corner of Shakespeare and Victor Hugo Streets in Mexico City owned by Rosa Carbajal, a place that hides an intimate and passionate story. This is the setting where Rosa met Jorge Riosse twenty years before, a young tenant who became her closest friend. INTIMACIES OF SHAKESPEARE AND VICTOR HUGO is a profound sketch of two characters, lonely in their own way, or in spite of themselves, strongly and strangely entwined.
