Synopsis
There is a boarding house on the corner of Shakespeare and Victor Hugo Streets in Mexico City owned by Rosa Carbajal, a place that hides an intimate and passionate story. This is the setting where Rosa met Jorge Riosse twenty years before, a young tenant who became her closest friend. For eight years he made an indelible mark on the people who came to know him at the boarding house. A self taught musician and painter, a speaker of six languages, it seemed there was nothing the charismatic protégé couldn’t do. It was not until after his sudden death that dark characteristics about his personality emerged. INTIMACIES OF SHAKESPEARE AND VICTOR HUGO is a profound sketch of two characters, lonely in their own way, or in spite of themselves, strongly and strangely entwined. Winner, Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 12th CLAIFF (2009).
CineNoche is a film series presented in partnership with Violet Crown Cinema.
This screening is co-sponsored by the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at The University of Texas at Austin.
