HINOJOSA is a poetic tribute to one of the most important Mexican-American writers alive, Rolando Hinojosa-Smith (b. 1929). In this fifteen minute documentary, Hinojosa himself recounts his childhood in Mercedes, Texas‚ a border town in the Rio Grande Valley, and the origins that led him to inspiration and to become a pioneer of the Chicano literary movement of the 1970s. Constructed with evocative, contemplative sequences, as well as interview excerpts, the film is a manifesto of the writer’s artistic spirit.
