On the isolated island of Cubagua, a rare Venezuelan culture of fifty-one fishermen is on the brink of extinction. They are the lonesome watchmen of the ruins of Nueva Cádiz, the first Spanish city of the Americas. Abandoned 500 years ago, this forgotten community was finally promised a revitalization of the historic island in 2007, but the funds for the project have mysteriously vanished. FLOR DE LA MAR provides an unprecedented glimpse into this famished world through the touching testimonies of the fishermen and the people who have tried to protect this important site for humanity.
