GENOVEVA tells a story that links family memories with the prejudices behind contemporary images of indigenous people. A picture of an elderly Mapuche great-grandmother that nobody knows is the starting point for this documentary essay. Through the analysis of that image, speaking with family members, a trip to the towns of southern Chile, and an actress recreating various photos, we see the existing prejudice against indigenous people. It is a story about how the image creates reality as well as the importance of acknowledging mestiza identity.
