The Dog Thief

In the Bolivian capital of La Paz, Martín is a teenage shoeshine boy and orphan with few friends or resources. His best client, Mr. Novoa, is a lonely tailor whose only companion is Astor, a beautiful German Shepherd he treats like a son. Out of desperation, Martín steals Astor—but as he and Mr. Novoa spend more time together, an unexpected bond begins to grow between them.

Vinko Tomičić Salinas

Biography(s):

Vinko Tomičić Salinas is a Chilean screenwriter, director and producer. His first short film, "Durmiente," was selected for Ficunam, Guadalajara, Cali, São Paulo, and Vancouver. His short film "Aicha" screened at Biarritz, Guadalajara, Chicago, and Locarno Academy Screenings 2019. In 2014, he founded the production company Calamar Cine, which produced "El Fumigador" (Cockroach), a feature film he co-directed with Francisco Hevia. The film premiered at the 20th PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights and won "Best National Film" at SANFIC 2016. His first solo film as a director, “The Dog Thief,” was developed at the Cannes Cinefondation Residency and the Venice Biennale College Cinema program. It premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.
