Synopsis
David dreams of being a pianist like his father, José Luis, who believes it impossible due to his son’s physical characteristics: short arms, hands with four fingers and limited hearing. Thanks to his tenacity, David shows him that he can play in his own way and together they begin a musical path that culminates in a new challenge for David: premiering, during the pandemic, the difficult concerto for piano and orchestra that his father composed for him.
CONCIERTO PARA OTRAS MANOS (CONCERTO FOR OTHER HANDS) is a powerful testament to the beauty of interdependence, creativity, and care. Rather than framing disability as an obstacle to overcome, this intimate documentary celebrates the unique ways people adapt and thrive when supported by community and love. Through the story of David, a young pianist with Miller syndrome, and his father José Luis, the film weaves music and possibility into a moving portrait of resilience.
Best feature documentary nominee for the 2025 Ariel Awards (Mexico’s equivalent to the Oscars).
