João is a writer. He was born as Joana in 1950. Giowana, a lawyer, came out as a woman six years ago. Wallace, who acts in Teatro Oficina, gave up on defining a gender in 2010. Luan, a 16 year old student, was a girl until the age of 14. TRANS shares life stories of those who are born into bodies they do not identify themselves with. The trajectory, the ambiguity, the doubt, the fear and the courage of being transgender in Brazil.

About the director

Fernanda DedavidFernanda Dedavid is a journalist who focuses on cultural and environmental issues. She debuted in documentary filmmaking with TRANS, after a ten year career in television. Dedavid won environmental journalism awards while working for CITIES AND SOLUTIONS at GloboNews and was a finalist for newspaper O Globo’s “Faz a Diferença” award when working for the program RECORTE CULTURAL at TVE/TV Brasil. Currently Fernanda Dedavid is an associate producer at Globo TV.
