Estela is a 12-year-old girl who has just fallen crazy in love with a young police cadet who wants to run away with her and get married. While she tries to achieve this dream, her family must live with the violence that is devastating this region of Mexico. HELI premiered at Cannes in 2013, where director Amat Escalante was awarded Best Director by a jury presided over by Steven Spielberg.

About the director

Amat Escalante Amat Escalante is a self-taught filmmaker from the city of Guanajuato, Mexico. After making two short films, he wrote and directed his first feature film, SANGRE, shot in his city and premiering at Un Certain Regard Official Selection at Cannes 2005, where he was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize. LOS BASTARDOS was his second feature, which also premiered at the Un Certain Regard Official Selection at Cannes 2008.
