Cine Las Americas offers a range of volunteer opportunities for qualified individuals, from helping at the box office, to assisting with production, operations, and much more. Volunteers are a major part of the festival.

Volunteer Pre-Festival Meetings
We’re looking forward to working with you and can’t wait to have you on the team!
To participate as a volunteer, you must fill out this form and attend one of our Volunteer Meetings. Volunteer Meetings are scheduled as:
Sunday, April 7th at 4:00 pm
Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00 pm
Both meetings will be held in the first floor conference room at the Cine Las Americas headquarters, located at 314 E Highland Mall Blvd.

– Twelve (12) total hours of work = 1 Film Pass
– Twenty (20) total hours of work = 2 Film Passes (one for you and one for a friend)

The Cine Las Americas Film Pass grants the holder preferential access to all film screenings at the festival, including Opening and Closing Night. It also includes access to select festival parties, receptions and other special events. Excludes members-only events.
NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for volunteers working less than the number of hours needed to earn a film pass. If you are a few hours short of earning a pass, we have several short shifts available to make up the difference.

Venue Volunteers are the largest group of volunteers at the festival. As a venue volunteer, you will be the face of the festival to our guests and to the audience. Venue volunteers will get to experience the festival at the ground level by interacting with our staff, guests and attendees face-to-face on a daily basis. Smiling faces are always appreciated! Duties may include selling tickets and merchandise, distributing and collecting audience surveys and audience awards ballots, answering general questions from the public, and ushering for film screenings and events. Spanish/English bilingual a plus.
Production Assistants are key to helping make the festival happen. Individuals should have excellent communication and organizational skills, thrive in a rigorous, high-energy, deadline-intensive work environment, work well under stress, follow direction well, and be able to problem-solve on the fly. Duties include event production and set-up, driving, customer service and other responsibilities as assigned. Spanish/English bilingual a plus. Reliable transportation required.
Registration volunteers support Registration and Guest Services. They help answer general audience questions about how to attend screenings and events, and they coordinate services for badge holders. Strong communication skills and a helpful attitude are essential for this position. This person should be knowledgeable of festival operations, events and staff, and be able to answer questions about festival activities. Registration and Guest Services also coordinates drivers for invited guests of the festival. Spanish/English bilingual a plus.
The Special Events volunteers are involved with the daily events of the festival, including set-up, production, hosting, and break-down of festival events. Food and beverage service falls in this category. Special events volunteers may be asked to work late hours, stay on their feet for extended periods of time, and do some heavy lifting. TABC and Food Handler certifications are a huge plus. Bilingual in English/Spanish is also preferred. Reliable transportation required, event/catering/food-and-beverage experience is also helpful.
Technical assistants are in charge of audio and video at the festival venues. Knowledge of different professional video formats, experience in video projection, ability to perform in a team-oriented environment, and ability to perform calmly while troubleshooting technical issues under pressure are required. Must attend orientation and a separate training for projection volunteers.
Venue Managers are organized team leaders who can keep to a tight schedule, work well with a team of volunteers, and provide a superior experience for festival attendees. Experience with customer service, managing event venues, box office, and staff preferred. Responsibilities include: managing a staff of volunteers in order to provide a seamless experience for film festival audiences, will call lists, merchandise sales, survey administration, and audience counts. Venue Managers are responsible for keeping the screening schedule on time in coordination with venue operations, working closely with the Production Manager, and possibly presenting a film in the absence of a program representative. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Reliable transportation required. Must attend orientation and a separate Venue Managers meeting.
This is an important position that will assist festival organizers in providing transportation services to guests of the festival. Must be mature, friendly, reliable, organized, and schedule-oriented. Able to meticulously follow direction, maintain a schedule, and perform well under pressure. Must know Austin very well. Volunteers for this position must have reliable transportation with valid insurance, valid Texas Driver’s license, and a clean driving record. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
This is a physically active position that works with production and events to load, transport, and unload cargo. Must be mature, friendly, reliable, organized, and schedule-oriented. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. and confidently drive a large vehicle with side mirrors. The festival will rent the cargo vehicle, but volunteers for this position must have their own reliable transportation with valid insurance, valid Texas Driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
Photographers will document key events during the festival. These volunteers must be able to shoot and edit all photos in a timely manner. They will collect the names of artists, delegates, and guests that are photographed, and organize deliverables with original files for the film festival during and at the end of the event. They must also have the availability to fulfill a tight production schedule, including nightly processing, upload and delivery. We seek Event Photographers as well as Red Carpet photography. Photographers are required to have access to professional grade photographic equipment, low-light Q&A shoots may be required.
The event Videographer will capture key events during the festival. They must be able to take direction, arrive on time, and follow technical specifications given by the Production Manager. We seek Event Videographers (to capture festival b-roll), Q&A Videographers, and Interview Videographers to fulfill a coverage schedule during the festival.
Videographers are required to have at least one year of experience in video production [shooting, interviewing and editing (sample of work will be required for submission)], access to own professional grade video camera and audio recording equipment (if on interviewing team). Access to various lenses is a plus. Organizing deliverables with original footage for the film festival at the end of the event will also be required.
Social Media Assistants will assist the Social Media Coordinator by capturing, collecting, and sending real-time content to be used in channels such as Facebook, Facebook stories, Instagram, Instagram Stories, and Twitter. Must be social media savvy, present, and reliable. Must have a smartphone or tablet with high-quality digital camera and willingness to use personal data plan for these tasks. Must be mature, friendly, reliable, organized, and schedule-oriented.
