Queer Rebels return with “Transgressors,” a raised fist of QTPOC experimentations with a mission to transgress, to cross, to border, to aggress and to deviate: Whitewashing, both historical and present, changes Puerto Rico’s culture (CLAVADO, Cristobal Guerra). A 2 Spirit infomercial provides tongue-in-cheek survival strategies (2 Spirit Introductory Special $19.99, Thirza Cuthand). Post-Orlando, we rise with the power of love (untitled/scissor sisters, Việt Lê). Additional films by Neelu Bhuman (FU377), Tina Takemoto (Warning Shot: The Killing of James Wakasa), Naima Lowe (Trouble the Water) and Celeste Chan (Queer Historical Mixtape).

This showcase will also include (Re)Generation, a live perfomance by Celeste Chan as a queer teenager in a haunted living room, with tiny silver fish, and the WWII Japanese occupation of SE Asia.

Cine Las Americas International Film Festival co-presents this program, curated by Queer Rebels, as a community partner of the 3rd annual OUTsider Fest. OUTsider is an Austin-based transmedia nonprofit that celebrates the bold originality and creative nonconformity of the LGBTQ+ communities through the presentation of provocative, overlooked and out-of-the-box film, dance, theater, performance art, music, writing and visual art. Through its annual festival and conference, OUTsider unites queer artists, audiences and scholars from around the globe to exchange ideas, ignite conversations, transcend boundaries and experience new pleasures through artistic discovery.
