CINE LAS AMERICAS ANNOUNCES ITS 19TH ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

AUSTIN, Texas (March 3, 2016) — Cine Las Americas is proud to announce the 19th Annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, scheduled for May 4 – 8, 2016. Films will be presented at partnership venues The Marchesa Hall and Theatre (6226 Middle Fiskville Rd.), The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (600 River St.) and Salvage Vanguard Theater (2803 E Manor Rd.). The festival will once again offer narrative and documentary feature and short films, as well as music videos and experimental and animation selections, in competitive and non-competitive sections.

For the 19th consecutive year, Austin will serve as host to a wide range of international films and filmmakers as the festival creates networking opportunities for industry professionals, and provides a rich cultural experience for statewide audiences. The festival will showcase contemporary films from the US, Canada, Latin America (North Central, South America, and the Caribbean) and the Iberian Peninsula. All films are presented in English and/or subtitled.

In her second year as Film Festival Director, Jean Lauer leads the coordination of this year’s film presentations and special events. “Each year, Cine Las Americas’ goal is to respond to new trends and emerging talent in film and media arts, as we showcase the best local, national and international films and videos at the festival,” says Lauer. “Our commitment to diversity and excellence in programming is supported by a number of partners, and we’re excited to be working again this year with Ambulante and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. We’re also pleased to announce two new locally-based partners, Out Youth and the Austin Music Video Festival. These partnerships enhance Cine Las Americas’ core mission of creating spaces for cross-cultural interaction and understanding.”

The line-up for the 2016 Cine Las Americas International Film Festival will be announced beginning in late March of this year.

In 2015, the festival screened 41 feature films, 49 short films, and 5 music videos representing over 25 countries. In its history, Cine Las Americas has presented more than 1,800 films in Austin and at various screenings across the state of Texas, becoming one of the most prestigious Latino film organizations in the country.
