THE BOOK OF JOE is an action/sci-fi short film that pits Joe, an everyday man from South Texas, against Death, an Angel, and even Jesus himself in an apocalyptic battle for the future of Earth. Blending vintage science fiction, biblical imagery and South Texas Americana, THE BOOK OF JOE is a unique, entertaining, and action-packed take on the end of the world. Before returning to the filmmaker’s native Austin, the film has screened as part of the Official Selection at the Seattle International and the HollyShort Film Festivals, among others.

The film travels back 12 years to the origin of these events, revealing not just the domino effect but how things work in a small Latin American community. After winning the Colombian Cinematographic Development Award for 2012, ZUGAR ZOMBIE has been delighting festival audiences internationally.

At the time of slavery, every day was a "day of black" in Brazil. But somewhere in the past, one of the slaves became the first free Brazilian black man. This is the backdrop to the saga of a young worker today in the eternal quest for freedom. The black man is now the driver of a wealthy family, involved with the daughter of his boss in the theft of a sacred relic. Pursued by the girl's boyfriend, he spends a crazy night in a mall, facing a series of bizarre characters. After a journey of life and death, our hero learns that there are days when the night sucks, and some stories do not end ever. Dia de Preto has played at various film festivals around the world, including recently at the Chicago Latino Film Festival; this film also features an outstanding soundtrack which was honored with Best Score by the Sunset International Film Festival, LA.

Marcos Felipe has a degree in Radio and TV from UFRJ and post graduate degrees in Screenwriting from UESA and Audiovisual Regulation from UFRJ. Since 2006, he's worked as a regulator for ANCINE in Brazil.Daniel Mattos also graduated from UFRJ and holds MA and PhD degrees in Communication from the same institution. Marcial Renato is a graduate in Communication with an MA in Literature from UFRJ. Marcial was a producer for TV Globo and currently acts as a regulator for ANCINE. Dia de Preto is the first feature written, produced and directed by these collaborators.
