Precious Knowledge

USA, Social Issue Documentary, 2011

Arizona lawmakers believe Tucson High School teachers are teaching victimization, racism, and revolution in their Ethnic Studies classes. Why is studying Mexican culture and history controversial? What is Ethnic Studies? Why is the national dropout rate so high for Latino youth? The Dos Vatos Productions team filmed a year in the classroom to find out why the Mexican American Studies program is so popular with students, so misunderstood by the public, and to discover what actually happens in the classroom. Precious Knowledge had its world premiere at the San Diego Latino Film Festival, and is especially timely in light of the recent ban on Mexican American Studies in Tucson.

Palos enjoys participating in Tucson's All Soul's Procession, a performance art extravaganza where he transforms into a dead vaquero to mourn and celebrate loved ones who have passed.
